Decorated with twinkling lights, bright shiny masks hanging from real trees and a castle with a drawbridge, the prom theme “Midnight Masquerade” was celebrated as the sound of high heels and loud music could be heard from the Baltic High School gym Saturday evening.
Prom advisor Jen Nuncio said students chose that theme in October.
“They wanted a castle, tent, forest, right off the bat,” said Nuncio, who is in her first year as advisor. Junior students on Friday decorated the gym for the Grand March and dance for 12 hours, Nuncio said. Decorating for prom is required of all junior students.
Junior Katelyn Breen said decorating for the Grand March and dance went well when students split into groups to work.
“Other than the part where we had to go to Menards to buy more turf,” she said.
Prom goers walked as couples through the Grand March on the grass, where strings of white lights created a path to walk and pose for a photo or two. Trees and bushes decorated with green, gold and purple masks also filled that area.
A banquet, brought back after a hiatus of a few years, was available to students for free from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the school commons. It was catered by Tony’s Catering based in Brandon and was paid for by the Post Prom Committee and the junior class.
The Grand March was held at 8 p.m., and then students danced the night away from about 9 p.m. to midnight. Then it was time to board a bus for another adventure—A Post Prom trip to The Amazing Pizza Machine in Omaha, a center for entertainment that has an array of arcade games, an indoor roller coaster, go-karts and food buffet, described by student Brittany Baysore as “Like Gigglebees except it’s for adults.” referring to the Sioux Falls pizza restaurant that before its closing last year featured children’s arcade games and activities.
